Enjoy an Economic and Comfort Ride on Trolley Buses
Have you ever enjoyed a ride on Trolley bus? If not then you are probably missing out an exciting experience while travelling. Trolley buses make an
economic, easy and comfortable mode of transport. If you are from California, I am sure you might not have missed the chance of having a ride on free
California trolley bus service. You can call it trolley bus or trackless trolley or simply trolley, but they essentially mean the same vehicle.
It's a kind of electric bus which runs on electricity drawn from the two trolley poles using
two overhead wires. As trolley buses have rubber tyres unlike electric trams, the two poles are essential for accommodating the return current.
It is interesting to know that the history of trolley date back to as late as 1880s. The best thing about trolley bus is it plays a great role
in reducing the environmental pollution as it runs on electricity rather than consuming diesel or gasoline,. Another advantage with trolley bus is
that it's almost noiseless as it doesn't have a diesel engine to emit sound while running. For this reason, it's often called as "silent transport service".
Generally, trolley buses are beneficial to use at hilly or steep areas as electric power is more useful than gasoline power. Especially, while climbing
steep hills the rubber tyres have better adhesive quality for rolling as well as while applying break.
In USA, the trolley bus is more seen at hilly areas like Seattle and San Francisco. But that doesn't mean trolley buses lag behind diesel powered
vehicles on flat surface. I bet they can outperform other flat surface-run buses as well. The only hitch is that the power consumed by trolley bus
can be a bit expensive as they are to be produced at centralised power plants. In some cities like Alberta and Calgary, wind energy is being using to
generate electricity for running trolley buses. Also in places like Canada, Washington and Seattle which have much hydropower generation,
electric power is used to run trolley buses.
Whenever I visit my home town Vancouver, I make it a point to commute via trolley bus. Even though in these Hi-fi electric cars and bikes days,
I feel trolley bus will continue its journey with pride and efficiency.
